Is Chicken Road legit in Canada? What the law says, province by province

Chicken Road is a real game from a real studio, InOut Games. Whether you can play it for money — and on which site — depends on your province. Below: the rule in the Criminal Code, what Ontario and Alberta license, where the offshore casinos stand, and five checks to make before a $10 deposit.

The short answer

“Legit” means two different things here, and both matter.

Is the game legit? Yes. Chicken Road is made by InOut Games, which lists it on its own site with an RTP of 98% and a release date of April 4, 2024[5] . Every outcome comes from the game’s random number generator. How we checked that the game is real takes three facts you can confirm yourself.

Is the site legit? That depends on where you are. Canada leaves gambling to the provinces, and the answer changes when you cross a provincial border.

What the Criminal Code says

Section 207 of the Criminal Code lets a province “conduct and manage” a lottery scheme, including one run “on or through a computer"[1] . That is the legal basis for every government gambling site in Canada. Organising a gambling scheme without that authority is an offence; the section also covers taking part in one, though there are no reported cases of it being used against ordinary players.

That’s why you will never see “legal in Canada” written about an offshore casino on this site. The accurate phrasing is: not licensed in Canada; holds a foreign licence according to the footer of its own site.

In the provinces without a private market, offshore casinos still accept players. They sit outside provincial licensing: the province neither licenses nor protects them, and disputes go to the casino’s own licensing body abroad.

Where the casinos on this site stand

The casinos we list for Chicken Road are offshore sites. Each one states its licence in its own footer and terms, and we quote it on the casinos page with the date we read it. None of them is registered in Ontario, and their terms exclude Ontario players — so from Ontario, our buttons open a province note rather than a sign-up page.

Outside Ontario and 19+ (18+ in AB, MB, QC)? This casino carries Chicken Road in its lobby from Canada and shows its licence in the footer.

Taxes on winnings

For a recreational player, gambling winnings in Canada are generally not taxable — the CRA treats them as windfalls[4] . If gambling is your business, the profits are income. Interest on money you’ve won is taxable like any other interest.

Five checks before you deposit

  1. The licence line in the footer. Name, number and the body that issued it.
  2. Your province in the terms. Search the terms for “Canada”, “Ontario” and your province’s name.
  3. Chicken Road in the lobby. Open the game page before depositing; some casinos carry Chicken Road 2.0 but not the original, or the reverse.
  4. The cashier in CAD. Check the minimum deposit and whether Interac e-Transfer appears for your account.
  5. Withdrawal terms. Processing time, verification documents and any withdrawal limits.

We make the same five checks for each casino on this site; the method is on how we rate.
